Empower students to function better, inside the classroom and out.

With Empowered Brain, learners with social-emotional learning challenges look through a computer screen (augmented reality) and get points and rewards for social behaviors with teachers and peers, creating data for IEP reports.

Based on neuroscience from MIT and Harvard, and grounded in peer-reviewed research, Empowered Brain is actively in use in school districts throughout Massachusetts. Be part of a game-changer for autism, ADHD, and SEL – begin your district’s risk-free pilot now!

Great News from Google — For Brain Power and for you! Dec 2019

Google publicly announced they will release a fundamental and final update to the operating system inside Google Glass. As a partner of Google since 2014, we knew long ahead but can now share the good news with you.

The update decouples Glass from “back-end” servers at Google. This means your device becomes a fully standalone, secure social-emotional learning solution.

Advantages of the Release

  • No need for Gmail account
  • Will never send data to Google servers
  • Increased security
  • No OS updates needed ever again
  • Brain Power software completely independent
  • Greater flexibility

A scientifically proven learning platform created by education and healthcare specialists

Empowered Brain™ includes a growing suite of applications that run on lightweight, computerized glasses.

The wearable apps use augmented reality and artificial intelligence to build skills relevant to self-sufficiency in people with autism, ADHD, and other brain-related challenges. For select research findings, see our Research Page.

Traditional medical and educational systems have struggled to find the resources and methods to address the needs of the increasing numbers of people with autism or ADHD. We think of Empowered Brain as providing Meducation™ — critical learnings that help overcome brain-based challenges.

Overviews of some of our current apps:

Transition Master™

Transitions to new locations and routines cause many students stress and anxiety. This app provides an immersive 360-degree experience, with gamified rewards for exploration, which help familiarize users with new places before visiting them in real life.

Face2Face guides you to pay attention to faces, with a rewarding game that students can use if they want to practice eye contact. Players earn points and exciting cartoon rewards when they look toward a partner (e.g. teacher or parent) while wearing the lightweight computerized glasses.

Emotion Charades™

In Emotion Charades, players tilt their head to choose the emoji that matches their partner’s expression, strengthening their emotional literacy. As with all our games, players earn points that build confidence, and also work to achieve Smilestones™ as they level up. The two-player game creates a dialogue via prompts that the teacher reads. Prompts assure deeper levels of emotional processing, and foster a connection with the student.

Human-Centric Use of Technology

The technology is the enabler, and the gamification provides structure and motivation, but the real focus is the human-human interactions we foster and the confidence that succeeding in them brings.

Important News: Google releases version 3 of Google Glass. Brain Power is again a partner.

Google announced the third version of Google Glass (second version of Glass Enterprise Edition).

Brain Power, as a longtime partner of Google, has been testing the newest version of Glass long before release: to provide you, our customers, with the best technology and reassurance of continued support. The device has a much faster CPU, a dedicated artificial intelligence engine onboard, and other improvements relevant to your needs. Perhaps most important is simply that Google continues to support and innovate in augmented reality.

“This student definitely has some attention difficulties normally, but when he put those glasses on, he immediately started focusing. The hands went quiet, his feet weren’t moving, and the focus was dead on.”

Special Education Teacher Duxbury, Massachusetts

“Typically with technology – iPad and iPhone – the child is looking down for the reward. With Empowered Brain, the child is looking up. And looking at you!”

Mother of a girl on the spectrum

“It has worked out very well [in our school]. … They love it. … It also has not been a distraction. Even though I am spending some quality time with the student, before and after playing the game, I am able to address the other students as well.”
